School attendance is a powerful predictor of school success and on-time graduation. Research shows that when students miss fewer than 10% of their school days, they have much stronger success in school. Use these tips to tell when your child is too sick to attend school.

Report All Absences to Your Child's School Within 48-Hours

Stay home if you have these symptoms

  • 24-Hour Rule

Returning to school too soon may slow recovery and make others sick.

    • FEVER OF 100.4°F or HIGHER: Stay home until the fever has been gone without medication for 24 hours or if a medical provider has asked you to stay home.
      • If you are on an attendance agreement, you may be asked to provide a doctor’s note upon return.
    • VOMITING OR DIARRHEA: Stay home for 24 hours after the last time you vomited or had diarrhea without medication.

If your child has been sent home with any of these symptoms, we expect they will be absent the next day.

    Once You Feel Better

You may return once 24 hours fever, vomit, and diarrhea free (without use of medication) and are able to participate in learning activities.

  • Check Your Symptoms
