Ephrata School District Names New Career & Technical Education Director

The Ephrata School District is pleased to announce Chris Franklin has been named the district’s next Career and Technical Education (CTE) director. Franklin will begin his new role on July 1, 2026.
Franklin brings more than 30 years of experience in education, leadership and Career and Technical Education. His background includes work as a teacher, athletic director, assistant principal, district CTE director and adjunct professor. Most recently, he served as assistant principal at South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard, where he provided instructional leadership and worked to improve student achievement and engagement.
“Chris brings a deep, practical understanding of Career and Technical Education and how it prepares students for life after high school,” said Superintendent Ken Murray. “He has a strong record of building high-quality programs, supporting staff and forming partnerships with local industry. That experience will help us continue expanding meaningful opportunities and career pathways for students across Ephrata. We’re excited to welcome him to our district.”
Franklin will replace Sarah Vasquez, who has served as the district’s Career and Technical Education and Technology Director since 2018. During her tenure, Vasquez strengthened CTE programs at both the high school and middle school levels. She will continue serving the district in a leadership role overseeing communications and technology.
“I’m truly excited about the quality of education already in place in Ephrata Schools, and the more I’ve learned about the district, the more energized I’ve become to be part of it,” Franklin said. “I care deeply about helping students discover who they are and what’s possible for their future. My goal is to grow Career and Technical Education pathways so more students can access meaningful opportunities that spark their interests and build real direction for their lives. I’m a relationship-driven educator, and I’m looking forward to building strong connections with students, staff, families and local industry as we work together to serve this community.”
Franklin holds a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine, physical education and K-12 education from Whitworth University and a master’s degree in education from the University of Washington. He has also served on statewide advisory committees and professional organizations focused on strengthening Career and Technical Education across Washington.
