Superintendent Message to the Community: December 19

Tiger Community: As I think about the beginning of winter break, I also find myself reflecting on this season. It is a time of year that invites all of us to slow down—to reflect, reconnect, and care for one another with intention.

This time of year, I often return to a favorite song: the David Bowie and Bing Crosby version of The Little Drummer Boy. What has always stayed with me is its simple message of peace on earth—a reminder that peace isn’t created through perfection or grand gestures, but through sincerity, humility, and offering what we have to one another.

That idea feels especially meaningful in today’s world. We are a diverse community with different traditions, perspectives, and lived experiences. During moments of difference or disagreement, progress and understanding are most likely when we choose to be curious, not judgmental—when we listen first, seek to understand, and extend grace to one another. Those choices, though often quiet, are powerful.

I’m proud that our schools work every day to reflect that curious, nonjudgmental spirit. We are committed to creating environments where students are supported as whole people and where learning is strengthened by relationships built on trust, care, and belonging. I am deeply grateful for our schools, for those who are part of them each day, and for the way our community consistently supports kids, educators, and schools—not just through words, but through actions.

As we head into Winter Break, my hope is that this season brings you moments of peace, connection, and rest – whatever that looks like for you. May we all carry forward the reminder that we don’t have to do something extraordinary to make a difference; sometimes offering what we have to one another, with empathy and curiosity, is more than enough.

On behalf of our district, thank you for your continued partnership and support. I wish you a safe, restful, and meaningful Winter Break, and a hopeful beginning to the new year.
