The Ephrata School District today published its 2023-2024 school year calendar, which includes revisions to the start and stop times at each of the District’s schools.

Beginning this Fall, schools will start and end as follows:

Columbia Ridge Elementary: Monday: 9:05 a.m. - 3:05 p.m., Tuesday - Friday: 8:05 a.m. - 3:05 p.m.
Grant Elementary: Monday: 9:05 a.m. - 3:05 p.m., Tuesday - Friday: 8:05 a.m. - 3:05 p.m.
Parkway Intermediate School: Monday: 9:05 a.m. - 3:05 p.m., Tuesday - Friday: 8:05 a.m. - 3:05 p.m.
Ephrata Middle School: Monday: 8:50 a.m. - 2:50 p.m., Tuesday - Friday: 7:50 a.m. - 2:50 p.m.
Ephrata High School: Monday: 8:50 a.m. - 2:50 p.m., Tuesday - Friday: 7:50 a.m. - 2:50 p.m

Modifications to the start and end times across the District create many benefits including:

  • Allowing the youngest students to start at the same time and to be the latest starting schools in the district. During the 2022-2023 school year, Columbia Ridge Elementary began school at 7:40 a.m. This change moves the start of school back 25 minutes and provides the same start time for all elementary and intermediate school students.
  • Reducing the amount of end-of-day absences for high school and middle school student athletes that leave early for sporting events. Under the old schedule, EHS athletes would regularly miss end-of-day classes for sporting events. By ending school at 2:50 p.m. instead of  3:10 p.m., absences will be significantly reduced, allowing students to stay in classes longer.

“Making modifications to the school day is not a change we take lightly,” said Tim Payne, Ephrata School District Superintendent. “This change balances the needs of the district with feedback from families that were concerned our start and end times were impacting our students. Our mission is to exist for kids and learning. We’re pleased to find a solution that benefits all students and does so equitably.”

Ephrata Schools have a wealth of resources available to families looking to plan for the coming school year. Families can access next year’s required annual update forms, find school supply lists, review next year’s school calendar and much more.

Students will begin the school year with personalized, in-person orientation on either Monday, August 28 or Tuesday, August 29. Invitations will be sent to each family over the summer. The first day of instruction for all students will be Thursday, August 31.
