Grant Elementary staff gathered with the family of Evelyn "Evie" Melcher on Wednesday, November 16 to share stories and honor her life. Evie passed away from a medical condition over the summer. She would have been a fourth grader this year.

Teachers paid tributes to her, calling her "A whirlwind with her own energy and her cute little boots." Another said, "Evie didn't walk into a classroom, she'd skip. Her smile lit up the room."

Evie will always be remembered at Grant Elementary. A bench carrying her name graces the entryway of the school, along with a bulletin board that honors her years as a student. Though the bench is currently inside plans are to move it outside, to a more permanent location, in the future.

"Evie is unforgettable," said Shannon Dahl, Grant Elementary School Principal. "She will always be part of our school. She's one of those kids you'll never forget."
